Paul Schiavo “Environmental protection, economic equality, and social justice have been my core political principles all my life. At the root of these is a belief in the concept of commonwealth, the notion that health, wealth, safety, and general wellbeing rightly belong to all citizens of our country and, indeed, of our planet. This idea is especially clear in its relevance to the environment. Air, water, and livable habit and climate are assets we all share. That certain individuals despoil them for personal gain is appalling.

These days, my activism around climate issues consists of writing to lawmakers and newspapers (which I do often), marching and demonstrating every chance I get, and giving material support to The Sierra Club, EDF, Natural Resources Defense Council, Environment Washington, Washington CAN, and political candidates with strong environmental positions. Oh, and writing satirical songs like “It’s Getting Hot.” All this helps keep me sane (at least relatively), if nothing else.
